07/02/2014 – Ratification of the Agreement between Italy and Israel on Social Security

In its session of February 6th 2014, following a motion by Foreign Minister Emma Bonino, the Italian Government has approved the Agreement between Italy and Israel on Social Security, made in Jerusalem on February 2nd 2010, which governs the relations between the two countries regarding the identification of applicable legislation and pensions. A central element of the agreement is the protection of workers following employer companies and the total calculability and transferability of pensions. The text, in fact, is limited to these two cases, and does not address the issue of coordination methods for transborder attainment of rights and other social services. At the basis of the agreement is the wish to guarantee Italian citizens who have worked in Italy before moving to Israel the possibility of receiving directly in Israel a pension consistent with the dues paid in Italy. Otherwise, Italian citizens residing in Israel would receive only a pension equivalent to the number of years of paid dues once in Israel without the possibility of recovering the Italian dues.
