In application of the Law of 27 November 2020 n. 159 ‘Residence permits (“Permessi di soggiorno”) expired in the period between 01/31/2020 and 12/31/2020 have been extended until 01/31/2021.
Please find below are the rules currently in force for the re-entry in Italy of holders of expired residence permits.
- Return to Italy by direct flight (without stopover). The return to Italy will be allowed without a re-entry visa and/or consular accompanying notes.
- Return to Italy by flight connections with stopover in Schengen countries. In the case of a non direct flights that involve entry in Schengen Area through a Member State other than Italy, the return to the national territory will be allowed only with a re-entry visa that can be issued by the Embassy.
- Return to Italy by flight connection with stopover in non-Schengen countries. In order to prevent any hurdle during transit through non-Schengen countries, the Embassy may issue a consular note to those who send a request.
