CREATION OF THE ASSOCIATION OF ITALIAN ACADEMICS IN ISRAEL (AISSI)

By impulse of the Italian Ambassador to Israel, Gianluigi Benedetti, and thanks to the initiative of two professors from Ben Gurion University, Cristina Bettin and Aaron Fait, a group of Italian professors, researchers and doctoral students has created the “Association of Italian Scholars and Scientists in Israel” (AISSI). The announcement was given by the Embassy itself according to which the association, which has a non-profit character, has the purpose of giving greater visibility and prominence to the highly qualified Italian scientific presence in the Israeli academic milieu, both in the Humanities sector and in that of Science and Technology, jointly representing their interests. AISSI will promote “relations with the Israeli academic community, will support young Italian researchers and students upon their arrival in Israel and will contribute, in close collaboration with the Embassy, to the intensification and expansion of relations between academic and research institutions of the two countries”. In this regard, the AISSI Scientific Committee will be a point of reference for the Embassy in the elaboration of the Italian priorities in the sector of bilateral academic, scientific and technological collaboration. “The creation of AISSI” – underlined Benedetti who will be Honorary President of the association – “will ensure greater visibility to the many excellent Italian scholars and researchers in Israel, enhancing their role as a ‘bridge’ in support of academic and scientific relations between the two countries”.
