The visit of Giuseppe Pecoraro, Italian Coordinator on Combating Anti-semitism and Counselor to the President of the Council of Ministers, to Israel.

The National Coordinator on Combating Anti-Semitism Giuseppe Pecoraro, paid an institutional visit to Israel on Sept. 26-29.
The Italian Delegation accompanying the National Coordinator was composed by Dr. Andrea Giovannelli, head of his secretariat, and Prof. Simonetta Della Seta, an expert on Jewish history of Israel and Holocaust.

During the mission, the National Coordinator met with the Israeli Minister of Culture and Sports, Miki Zohar, as well Michal Cotler-Wunsh, at her first official meeting since her recent appointment as Israeli Special Envoy to Combat Anti-Semitism, and the President of Yad Vashem (National Holocaust Remembrance Board), Dani Dayan. He also participated in a Round Table at the Israeli Foreign Ministry attended by key Israeli institutional stakeholders, researchers and representatives of organizations active in the field of anti-Semitism.

The National Coordinator went to the Italian Temple in Jerusalem, meeting with members of the resident Italian community, and visited the Yad Vashem Museum. At the Residence of the Italian Ambassador, Prefect Pecoraro met with Italian representatives of the Rabbinate, Jewish associations and researchers on anti-Semitism.

At the end of an intense visit, Prefect Pecoraro has intended to thank the Israeli Government for the kind welcome that confirms the depth and excellence of the bilateral relations between Italy and Israel. On the Israeli side, similar appreciation was expressed, also for the decision to establish – within the Office of the President of Council – a specific figure on Combating anti-Semitism.

According to the National Coordinator the contributions shared in the course of the numerous institutional meetings will be very useful in order to intensify the action of the Italian Government on combating anti-Semitism, at national and international level.

Prefect Pecoraro, at the end of the visit, extends his thanks to the Italian Ambassador to Israel, Sergio Barbanti, and to the staff of the Italian Embassy for their kind cooperation and for making possible the organization of the visit and the realization of the meetings.
