In order to request a refund of the citizenship fee erroneously or improperly paid for the acquisition, reacquisition, renunciation, or granting of citizenship, you can submit an application to the Prefettura or the closest Embassy or Consulate. The application should be filed with the following documentation:
– If submitted to a Prefettura, receipt of payment of the €16.00 stamp duty (Imposta di bollo) pursuant to Presidential Decree No. 642 of October 26, 1972;
– The original payment receipt issued by the bank, as well as the SWIFT message (the document must be transliterated into Latin characters and show the payer’s personal details);
– Copy of a valid ID;
– Applicant’s tax code number (to request one, visit these pages Fiscal Code – Ambasciata d’Italia Tel Aviv or Fiscal Code (for foreign nationals) – Ambasciata d’Italia Tel Aviv).
