Study Visas, Enrollment to the University for the academic year 2026-2027
If you intend to enroll in a higher education course in Italy and you are not a citizen of a country of the European Union (you, therefore, need an entry visa to Italy for long-term stays), you will have to:
- pre-enroll according to the procedure and the timing that will be published on it/studenti-stranieri website and on the dedicated sections of the website of this Embassy
- apply for a long term (D Type Visa)
Down below you will find the requested steps, summarized in four steps. If you are resident in Israel, you can ask for assistance from the Embassy.
FIRST STEP -Choosing the University
Consult first of all, the educational offers, or all the information on courses and Universities on the Universitaly portal or the STUDY IN ITALY portal. Only once you have a clear idea and have matured your choice, you can pre-enroll for the course you are interested in.
WARNING! You will have to verify directly with the chosen university whether it is necessary to obtain a letter of eligibility for enrollment before applying for enrollment
SECOND STEP – Pre-enroll online
At this stage, you can click on ‘Pre-enrollment application> New pre-registration application’ to start the process. Remember that you can only send one pre-enrollment application for the 2026/2027 Academic Year, thus choosing a single university and a single course of study.
At the ‘Pre-registration application’ stage you will have to upload the following documents to the portal:
- Copy of passport
- ‘Bagrut Melea’ (high school diploma) complete with Apostille as per the Convention of The Hague and translation into Italian
- Declaration of value (if already obtained in the past, you can present it without requesting a new one) – check directly with the University if they need
- A certificate of knowledge of the Italian language, if requested.
WARNING! If this is your first time pre-enrolling and you have never obtained a declaration of value, follow the instructions at this page.
Please note, unless the University requests the DoV to be upload for pre-enrollment, you can submit your DoV application the same day of your visa appointment. The DoV will be ready for collection together with your visa.
If you have obtained your high school diploma in a country other than Israel and Italy, please note that you will need to request the declaration of value from the competent Italian Consulate in the Country where you completed your studies.
THIRD STEP – Check for any additional condition of enrollment, such as entrance and language exams.
If you have decided to enroll in an architecture course, in addition to pre-enrollment, you will also have to take a specific admission exam, which you must pass for the definitive enrollment.
Specific instructions on the entrance exam will be provided by the different Universities.
FOURTH STEP – Apply for a visa. (application to be lodged and documents to be provided NO LATER THAN NOVEMBER 30th 2026) .
Once you will have uploaded all the required documents and ONLY when your pre-enrollment will be validated by the University you have chosen on the Universitaly portal, you can submit your visa application to this Consulate.
To submit your visa application, you will need to schedule an appointment with the Consulate through the Prenota@Mi portal (Type D visa for university enrollment). Due to the high volume of requests, and in consideration of the regulations which state that the application must be lodged at least 15 days before the intended departure date, we URGE you to schedule an appointment with sufficient advance. The processing time for a student visa application is included in a period ranging from a minimum of 15 days to a maximum of 90 days, as provided by the visa regulations.
On the day of the appointment, you must bring with you:
- visa application form (download from this link);
- one recent passport-sized photograph;
- a valid travel document, with expiration date at least three months longer than the visa requested;
- documentation proving the availability in Italy of an adequate accommodation; hotel o residence or Airbnb reservations are accepted for at least the first 15 days of your stay in Italy:
- proof of financial means of support in Italy , of no less than € 848,25 for each month of the academic year (€ 10.179,85 per year). The possession of such amount represents a reference parameter, which will need to be evaluated within the broader economic situation of the student and/or his/her family; the student must demonstrate, through the documentation provided, to have an overall economic situation that is stable, solid, and reliable, such as to suggest the availability of the necessary funds throughout the continuation of their studies.
- This availability can be proven by showing personal financial guarantees or those of parents or others family members (within the 4th grade) or Italian or foreign entities or citizens regularly residing in Italy, or provided by Italian institutions and entities of proven credit, including universities, local governments, foreign institutions and entities considered reliable by the Embassy of Italy in Tel Aviv;
- documentation proving the availability of the amount needed for repatriation, or a return ticket, in addition to the € 10.179,85 above mentioned, or a return ticket;
- documentation proving the availability of an adequate insurance coverage for medical treatment and hospitalization valid for Itay, for at least the first 3 months of your stay in Italy;
- Cash for the payment of the visa fee of NIS 183 (until 30/06/2026).
The Visa office reserve the possibility to ask for some more documents at the moment of the application;
WARNING!
Please note that no applications will be accepted beyond the deadline of November 30th 2026.
Within eight days of your arrival in Italy you will have to apply for a residence permit at the competent Police Headquarters. To this end, we invite you to consult the attached document “rights and duties of foreigners relating to long-term admissions and stays”.
Good luck!
