The registration of civil status documents for marriage, civil union, deaths and related to sentences of divorce takes place exclusively by correspondence; therefore, it is NOT necessary to request an appointment at the Consulate. For registration of births based on the provisions of art. 3-bis, you can send all the original documents by mail. For registration of births based on the provisions of art. 4 of Law 91/1992, you will have to coordinate an appointment with the Consulate.
The Consular Chancellery does not issue birth, marriage, death or divorce certificates, which are the exclusive competence of the Municipality in Italy.
